The Poznań University of Medical Sciences (PUMS) is a leading medical university which has made a significant contribution to the development of Polish medicine both in research and practice. PUMS’s current position is the sum total of the high level of education reflected by achievements in research and nearly 100 years of tradition dating back to the establishment of the Pharmaceutical Department and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Poznań in April 1920. The turning point in the rich history of PUMS was the establishment the Department of Education in English, currently the Center for Medical Education in English, within the Faculty of Medicine II. Thanks to the efforts of PUMS authorities and their involvement in the implementation of this innovative project, the Poznań University of Medical Sciences has educated nearly one thousand students who have completed a total of five English language programs. Along with five clinical hospitals, PUMS is a vibrant and dynamic center and belongs to most dynamically developing higher education institutions in Poland.
The Congress and Teaching Center with the Main Library, Collegium Stomatologicum and the Medical Biology Center make the so-called PUMS Grunwald Campus. This complex is popularly called “a nice part of Poznań”. PUMS is characterized by innovative teaching and state-of-the-art facilities. It has altogether four faculties, i.e. the Faculty of Medicine I, the Faculty of Medicine II, the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Health Sciences. Candidates can choose from 18 majors and a number of post-graduate and Ph.D. programs.
International cooperation in the field of research and teaching and active contribution to international research projects are among the priorities of PUMS’s development. PUMS has concluded long-term cooperation agreements with medical universities all over the world. The main objective of research projects carried out at PUMS is to develop modern, world-class technologies. Recognition in numerous national rankings is indicative of the effort made to improve the university’s performance. Students are central to all initiatives undertaken by the university authorities and its academic teachers. The Poznań University of Medical Sciences has a long tradition of setting high standards and ensuring that its graduates are well-prepared to pursue medical professions. PUMS students develop their passions and interests in a variety of science clubs and student organizations.
